I am From the Hood of Cabrini Green to all the Childhood Memories

by TO

I am from the hood of Candy man the land of which I stand.
I'm from the summer fun and the sound of a shot gun.
I am from All Nation Pental Costal Church,
the place which my ancestors cherish their work.

I'm from the pink bows to the fluffy ruffows.
I am from the place in Chi- Town
where everything you owned had to be in style.
I'm from the Just For Me box, to the corn pops,
from the house raids to the dookie braids.

I am from the hood of Cabrini Green
where the thugs had stacks of 20 "G's".
I'm from the Hood of Cabrini Green
to all the childhood memories.
I am from the life I use to live to the life I live now.
I'm from the Hood where the fights break out
and there was no way out.

I am from the Hood where you hear the ambulance at night
and you sit and wonder if that person is all right.
I'm from the Payless shoes to the dookies,
from the two bedrooms to the three bedrooms.
I'm moving on up from the hood of Cabrini Green
and all the childhood memories.

But I'll never forget where I came from.
I am from the hood of Cabrini Green
to the "L" train on the "G".
I'm from the Cobra's to "G's" the Vice Lords to the Kings.
I'm from the hood of Cabrini Green and the dangerous streets.
I am from 47th street to Palaski from ShopKo to Rainbow.
I'm from Cabrini Green to da hookers on da street
to the big time thugs selling drugs.
I am from the hood of Cabrini Green
to momma yelling out the19th floor window to come eat.
I am from daddy carrying me on his neck
and teaching me to play ball and I give him much respect for that.

I'm from the love of my girl Pooh to the new world.
I am from the family get togethers to the family fights.
I'm from the cornbread to the colslaw
from the baked chicken to the fried chicken.
I'm from the hood, the hood of Cabrini Green
to all the childhood memories.
