Volunteering with the Madison Metropolitan School District

Like business, like society, Madison schools are changing. Today, educating children requires the talent and commitment of the entire community--and people just like you play a role in every student's success.

Individuals and community organizations work in partnership with teachers and family members to make sure that all our kids get what they need to succeed. These collaborations span the entire spectrum of learning--from pre-school readiness to post-graduate jobs and adult education.

There's a place for you in all of this. Here are some ways community members can help schools carry out their work:

• Help a child learn to read
• Mentor a student
• Sponsor a tour of the workplace
• Work in a school library or office
• Share a hobby, career interest, skill or talent
• Assist a teacher in a computer lab
• Explore math or science with a student
• Join a Parent/Teacher Organization
• Supervise an after-school club activity
• Serve on a school/neighborhood team
• Delve into the Internet with a student
• Participate on a District committee
• Carry out a social studies project in the community
• Talk to us about your ideas!
