Vol. III No. 6 - June 2, 2008
It has been a busy few months in preparing for the opening of Paul J. Olson Elementary School this fall.
I spent a significant amount of time this spring interviewing staff applicants, and now many positions are filled. I believe the Olson staff will be a truly amazing group of educators!
In addition, I have been working with various MMSD staff to ensure that our classrooms will be well-equipped with materials and supplies to ensure optimal learning for our students. Our new librarian has been busy ordering materials and books for our LMC. How exciting to think that our students will be selecting and checking out books that will be read for the very first time!
On May 20, we had a picnic at a nearby park (photo, right) for incoming Olson School students. Students, staff and parent volunteers then took a walking tour around the perimeter of the new school (photo). We were unable to tour the inside of the school as it is currently under construction. Even from a distance, everyone was very impressed by the beauty and size of the building!
We have some upcoming events planned in preparation for the opening of Olson Elementary. On Thursday, August 28 from 4:00 - 7:00 we will have tours of the building for all incoming Olson students and their families. The first day of classes will be the same as all the other schools in the Madison district - Tuesday, September 2.
On Sunday, September 14 we will have our Open House Celebration for all community members. This will take place in the school, with 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. the tentative time. During our Open House event we will meet and hear from several members of Paul Olson's family.
I look forward to the first year at Olson School with great anticipation and optimism!
