"Hope, energy and vision"
|
I have had the pleasure of working for the Madison School District for 33 years. I started my career with hope, energy, and a vision. That hope, energy, and vision continues through the wonderful memories of children, parents, staff, and administrators I have been so fortunate to work with. My teaching career has been a historical educational journey. The history ranges from teaching special education children in a self contained classroom, to social play in the general education classroom, to where we are today: inclusion in the general education classroom. I now work with teachers who share jointly in educating all children. In reflecting on my 33 years of teaching, I know I have made a difference for children and their families. That difference is witnessed in a smile from a child and a thank you from a parent. It is also witnessed in the growth and change in so many children. All the stress of meetings and reports is diminished when you look into the eyes of a child who feels valued and engaged. I have worked with administrators who held a vision and demonstrated openness for change. I have had tremendous opportunities for personal and professional growth working for the Madison School District. My hope for the future is that teachers continue to challenge their own views and maintain the joy of this profession, in spite of the extreme pressures. I offer a simple recommendation; work with pride and energy, maintain a sense of humor, and remember the reason we all chose this profession — what we do not only benefits one child but an entire society. I thank the administrators, staff, parents and all the wonderful children I have known in my 33 years of teaching. Return to MMSD Today |
