Three Hamilton Middle School staff members endured the pain of cold and icy Lake Monona, but their group of 10 raised over $1,900. Eric Goelzer, Sara Parrell and David Long participated in Special Olympics' Polar Plunge on Feb.

Connor Driscoll of La Follette HS won the Bronze Medallion of Excellence for “Dreidel” in the 2010 Scholastic Art Awards hosted by the Milwaukee Art Museum. His work alone earned this honor from among more than 1,200 works submitted by middle and high school students throughout Wisconsin. His La Follette art teacher is Monique Karlen.

Students in Jim Igielski's 5th grade class at Lincoln Elementary School opened the boxes containing 1,000 books donated to the school through PaperBackSwap.com. The brand new books have been placed in teachers' classrooms or given to students. Paperbackswap.com is a free online book club in which members swap books for the cost of postage.
Students at Randall Elementary spent a day learning about different aspects of Hmong life in Laos. Here, a student simulates sifting rice from the outer hulls. Students learned about basket weaving, story cloths, traditional games, dancing and singing with the help of Hmong parents.
