On behalf of the staff in the Department of Educational Services, I welcome you to our website. Our purpose in developing this website is to provide parents, students and community members with up to date information related to Special Education, English as a Second Language and Bilingual Education.

The focus of our department's work is to ensure that students with unique learning challenges reach their full potential by creating and providing an array of services and supports to supplement or replace general education assessment, curriculum, and instruction in a safe environment through collaborative efforts with staff and parents.

Our staff are continuously involved in professional growth and development to ensure that quality services are provided to meet the needs of students.  We are committed to designing and delivering specialized programming, when necessary, so that each student benefits from their education in the Madison Metro School District.  We also encourage school communities to develop a shared responsibility for all student’s learning and development by increasing our collaborative efforts within the school and between the home, school and the community.  Parents and other community members are in the schools often and I believe that input and involvement from these individuals are very important aspects of a student’s school success.  

In addition to parent and community involvement, our dedicated and professional staff have a common goal of doing what is best for students.  To achieve this goal requires placing a value on continuous improvement, innovation and change.  The commitment of staff, parents and community members to student success has enabled our district to be recognized for its’ excellence in education. 

I remain committed to providing the best possible services for our students within the limits of our district’s resources.  Working together, we can make wonderful things happen for all our children.
